Although your hard skills are necessary for the career you want, your soft skills play a significant part in how quickly you advance. Along with your work ethic, communication skills, and emotional intelligence, exhibiting a positive attitude will help you reach your career goals. Because people aren’t always taught to be positive, you may have an edge over the competition by exhibiting this quality.
Here are several reasons why positivity is a necessary soft skill in your career path. Solve Problems Maintaining a positive attitude helps you solve problems. You’re able to stay calm, gather the necessary information, and objectively evaluate ways to overcome the issue. This prevents a small concern from turning into a major obstacle. You’re able to keep stress at bay and exercise better judgement to find the best answer. Strengthen Relationships Living with a positive attitude results in better work relationships. People are more inclined to work with others who exhibit positivity. This increases collaboration so projects are finished on time. If team members need help, you’re there to lend a hand. Team members are happy to reciprocate when needed. Encourage Positivity Modeling a positive attitude encourages others to follow suit. Because you spend a significant amount of time interacting with colleagues each day, set the example for how you’d like to see others behave. Positivity increases your spirit, enthusiasm, and drive to succeed. You accomplish more with a positive attitude, especially when those around you behave in a similar manner. Increase Happiness Exhibiting positivity increases your overall happiness. Focusing on things you’re grateful for, such as your home, health, family, and friends, makes you truly happy. Displaying a positive attitude that makes others behave in a similar way can make you happy as well. You may encourage others to emphasize what they’re grateful for to maintain a positive attitude. Improve Quality of Life Living with a positive attitude increases your quality of life. How you feel about yourself is linked to your attitude. Thinking positive thoughts boosts your confidence and self-esteem. This provides confidence and motivation to achieve the goals you’re passionate about. Enhance Well-Being Displaying a positive attitude increases your overall well-being. You’re likely to be more fit, energetic, and healthy than people who don’t exhibit positivity. You tend to eat healthy foods, exercise daily, and spend time with positive people. These actions advance your immune system and boost your mind to function at its best. Cultivate Your Reputation Promoting positivity enhances your professional reputation. Making a favorable impression at work promotes career growth. Along with your skills, experience, qualifications, and performance, the perception of your personality plays a significant part in being promoted. Part of being viewed as a leader involves having a positive outlook and influencing others accordingly. .A sense of autonomy at work is important. When you feel in control of your time and responsibilities, you feel more satisfied and more motivated. But gaining this flexibility and freedom is tricky, especially as many companies are expecting even more of employees when they transition to working remotely. Still, more and more companies are open to flexible working arrangements to keep their most talented and productive employees happy.
If you’re looking for more flexibility from your company, these steps might help you get it. 1. Ask to try things on an interim basis Request a trial period, perhaps three to six months, to try to ease your boss’s fears. Keep track of your quantifiable achievements as proof that the arrangement is working. Focus on staying in close communication with your boss, so he trusts you and doesn’t feel like you’re absent. 2. Put it in writing Draft a proposal that describes your ideal work schedule, compensation and benefits and what flexibility you’re willing to demonstrate in return. Make the request in person and prepare a formal pitch—an emailed request is easier for your boss to shoot down! 3. Take baby steps If telecommuting isn’t an option, ask for modified hours that better suit your needs. Or request that you work from home one day a week. These are starting points and might open the door for bigger shifts later on. 4. Explain what’s in it for your company When you present to your boss, create a plan to that highlights how you can boost your productivity, not that focuses on your own needs. Convince him that your plan is in the best interest of the company. Stay in touch with your office if you’re able to work remotely, keep the lines of communication open. Always be willing to come in for meetings or touch base for lunch. You need to prove that you’re enthusiastically committed to the company and available for that valuable face time. 5. Be willing to compromise Stay open to your employer’s suggestions. Remember that his priority is that you perform well and that you’re reliable. When the trial period is up, use documentation to demonstrate that your productivity has increased. Be prepared to make tweaks to the arrangement if necessary. But remember that if you really need a more flexible working arrangement, there are plenty of companies out there that are happy to accommodate that perk. Are you looking to advance your career? It's easy to write off self-improvement as something to get around to in the future. But there are plenty of small things you can do each day to make a huge positive impact in your life. Here are 20 things you can start doing immediately to improve your health and happiness.
Make your bed: If you're not already someone who makes their bed first thing in the morning, start today. This simple task takes under two minutes and starts your day with a sense of accomplishment and order. Create a consistent morning routine: Whether you like to hit the gym at the crack of dawn or prefer to wake up slowly with coffee and meditation, performing the same set of actions at the start of every day helps keep you grounded and productive. Create a consistent evening routine: Ending your days in the same way offers the same benefits as beginning your days in the same way. Try reading, journaling, or another calming activity just before bed to ensure a great night's sleep. Use time blocking to organize your work schedule: Time blocking involves dedicating specific blocks of time to specific tasks or activities. It's a simple practice that has been shown to increase focus and productivity. Listen to music you love while getting ready: Hearing one of your favorite songs can instantly boost your mood, giving you the burst of positive energy you need to take on whatever the day brings. Wear something you love: Whether it's a favorite sweater, lipstick, necklace, or baseball cap, wearing clothing or accessories you love can make you instantly feel more comfortable, confident, and self-expressive. Practice gratitude journaling: Before you tackle your to-do list, write down at least three things you're grateful for. Use the same notebook each day to gain inspiration when you're feeling down. Use the rule of three to prioritize your to-do list: Each morning, write down the three things you absolutely must do that day - and really, limit yourself to three. Even if you get nothing else done that day, you'll still feel accomplished. Do the hard thing first: Tackle the toughest or most tedious task on your list - yes, that one you've been dreading - first thing. Once you've done that, everything else will feel easy in comparison. Kill the afternoon slump: After your lunch break, perform a quick energizing activity - whether it's listening to an upbeat song, doing a 10-minute yoga video, or taking a walk around the block. You'll return to work refreshed and reinvigorated instead of sluggish. Stay hydrated: Drinking water is the simplest solution to many of life's ailments: tiredness, stress, irritability, and more. Keep a full water bottle on your desk to remind yourself to stay hydrated. Try adding a slice of lemon or lime for extra flavor. Learn something new: Use whatever medium you like best - book, blog, podcast, or TED Talk - to tease your brain and broaden your horizons each day. Create or revisit goals: New Year's isn't the only day you can make resolutions. If you're feeling unmotivated or directionless, set a new goal for yourself, or adjust previous goals that have fallen by the wayside. Write a Yes List: Make a list of activities that consistently make you happy - painting, exercising, listening to music - and keep it in an easily visible place. The next time you're stuck in a bad mood, choose one of the activities from your Yes List for an instant turnaround. Talk to someone you love: Take a few minutes every day to connect with a friend or family member. You don't have to call them or see them in person - a quick text message is perfectly sufficient for staying connected and boosting your mood. Spend 10 minutes tidying up: We're not talking about bleaching the bathroom here - just a quick cleaning, decluttering, or other low-effort household task to keep your space organized and jumpstart your productivity. Get outside: You don't need to go for a run, a hike, or even a stroll. Simply spending a few minutes outside and breathing in fresh air can dramatically improve your mood. Move your body: Break up your day with some type of physical activity. A full-body workout at the gym isn't necessary - taking a relaxing walk, performing some simple stretches, or even doing a few jumping jacks can release enough endorphins to keep you energized. Do something for someone else: Studies show that performing acts of kindness for others makes us happier. A simple action like holding the door open or paying a genuine compliment can boost your mood. Work with a staffing recruiter: If you're ready to start a new and improved chapter in life, an expert recruiter can offer great advice and career opportunities. Tapuz Staffing shares 7 Tips to Help You Get Hired Fast.
You may ask yourself, how long does it really take to get hired? It depends! The time it takes from sending out your first application to the moment you are hired can vary from weeks to months. Multiple common factors influence the job search process and each applicant’s unique situation (personality traits, soft skills, etc.). In addition, the length of a job search depends on common factors such as the type of job you are applying for, the geographic location, professional experience, the industry in which the job is in, and the search method. However, how you search for a job can either speed up the hiring process or make it longer. Some techniques yield faster results than others. Job seekers who only use one method, for example, the online search tool, may find the process takes longer. Sure, a great resume may help you get hired fast, but where you look, what you are looking for (entry-level, management, temporary, part-time), and how you look (self-search, network, staffing agency) all contribute to the hiring process. If your job search is taking a considerably long time, it may be time to review your job search technique. Want to get hired fast? 7 Job search strategies to get hired quickly Here are a few essential tips to ensure you put your best foot forward in your search to get hired fast. Don’t wait for that dream job Not everyone can have their first job be their dream job. It is instead the exception rather than the rule. For those who have recently graduated or changing careers, it may be more helpful to see a less-than-perfect job as a stepping-stone to something better. Stop overthinking and apply Many job candidates believe they should not apply for a job unless they are 100% fit. A study has found that women, more than men, would not apply for a job unless they met the stated requirements for that position. A Hewlett Packard internal report has found that 21.6% of women respondents cited they don’t apply for jobs because they didn’t think they would be hired as they didn’t meet all the requirements compared to 12.7% of male respondents. Yes, qualifications and experience play a role but often, hiring managers look for the “right fit” which factors in passion and soft skills. Have a great resume Your invitation to an interview primarily stands on your resume and cover letter. A job-specific resume emphasizes your skills, experience, and work experience – relevant details related to the job description that indicates how well suited you are to the position that needs to be filled. Therefore, using specific points in your resume and cover letter that align with the job description is suggested to show you are the right fit for this position. Network, network, network Not all open positions are posted on job boards or a company’s website. Some companies prefer recruiting internally. So, how do you hear about these “hidden” open positions? Networking! Believe it or not, this can be as simple as putting yourself out there and talking to people, letting them know you are in the job hunt process. This can be at a summer cookout or through your LinkedIn network. LinkedIn remains a popular professional networking site for job seekers. In fact, one research study found that 122 million candidates on LinkedIn received an invitation to interview, and 35.5 million were hired through a LinkedIn contact. Work with a staffing agency Staffing agencies can help speed up the process by doing the job search for you. They are up to date on which companies are hiring and which job vacancies are available. They will assess your suitability as a candidate before making the introduction, which means you have a greater chance of attracting the hiring manager’s attention. In addition, many staffing agencies provide valuable support and guidance, such as interview preparation tips. Optimize your job search online The digital era has opened up the ways to get hired. Statistics show that 55% of hiring managers rely on career sites, and 39% use job boards as recruitment tools. While the endless possibilities of going online to find a job, it can become overwhelming if you don’t narrow down your online search process. You can use automated emails and notifications to alert you to recently advertised posts. Many sites also offer resume-building tips and the opportunity to refine your job search to target only the most suitable available positions. And lastly… Work on yourself The job search process can be a taxing experience: the endless routine of perusing through job ads, drafting cover letters, submitting applications, and, most exhausting of all, the waiting around for a response. We understand job seekers face many challenges trying to get hired. We suggest practicing self-care to manage the stress of your job search. Healthy eating, good sleeping habits, and meditation can help you focus and protect your psychological well-being. Final words of advice To succeed in your professional journey, you must constantly evolve to the best version of yourself. Think about what you can offer your prospective employer and what you can do to improve the value you offer. If you want to speed up your job search and get hired fast, contact us today! Embrace the Early Light: Sunlight is a powerful mood booster. Open your curtains as soon as you wake up, or better yet, step outside for a few minutes to greet the sunrise. Soaking up natural light helps regulate your circadian rhythm and promotes alertness. Move Your Body: Exercise is a fantastic way to energize your mind and body. Start your day with a brisk walk, a yoga session, or a quick jog. Even a short burst of physical activity gets your blood flowing and improves focus throughout the day. Fuel Your Day Right: Skip the sugary cereals or pastries. Opt for a healthy breakfast that provides sustained energy. Think fresh fruits, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats. Don't forget to stay hydrated with a glass of water! Feed Your Mind: Dedicate some time each morning to feed your mind with something positive and stimulating. Read a few pages of an inspiring book, listen to an educational podcast, or work on a personal development project. Plan and Prioritize: Take 10-15 minutes to plan your day. Jot down your to-do list, schedule important tasks, and set realistic goals. This will give you a sense of direction and accomplishment throughout the day. Gratitude Attitude: Start your day with an attitude of gratitude. Reflect on the things you're grateful for, big or small. This simple practice fosters positivity and sets a positive tone for the day. Summer Bonus Rituals:
Remember, consistency is key! The more you stick to your morning rituals, the more natural and beneficial they'll become. With a little planning and intentionality, you can turn your summer mornings into a springboard for a positive and productive season. So, rise and shine, and make the most of your summer days! It is not easy to get invited to a job interview. It takes hiring managers, on average, six seconds to browse through a resume, rejecting hundreds of applications in the process, so you must have made a remarkable impression to have caught their eye. However, as positive this impression is, there is still one more hurdle before an actual job offer can be made – the job interview itself. Continue reading to learn how to boost confidence before a job interview.
For the employer, the job interview offers the opportunity to meet the applicant to confirm that they would be the best possible candidate for the advertised position. For you as the applicant, the job interview is the last opportunity to convince the hiring manager of why you are the only perfect candidate to be considered. This not so easy task takes confidence to convert job opportunities into genuine job offers. Hiring managers look for confident applicants as confidence is an important indicator of their belief in their capabilities. Why it is important to make a good impression in a job interview The latest available reports show the average number of applications received per job post is 118. Out of the 118 candidates, only a handful are invited to interview, and only one will be selected for the job. The selected candidate will ultimately be the one that has made the best impression on the hiring manager—demonstrating enthusiasm, positivity, confidence, warmth, and professionalism all help to create a favorable impression on recruiters. 9 Job interview confidence-boosting tips While exciting as it may be to be invited to a job interview, the event can be paired with anxiety and nervousness. Fortunately, there are many valuable ways to feel more confident and act more confidently when interviewing for a job 1. Preparation, preparation, preparation There is no getting around preparing well for an interview, especially one that counts as much as a job interview. Employers usually hire for one reason only – to solve a problem, hence the vacant position. To improve one’s chances of being hired, it is worth taking the time to research the company and the job description to pinpoint how you would be the solution to the problem. With this knowledge, you will be able to put forth a convincing argument why you are the best fit. 2. Aim to connect Being successful in getting hired is as much about your skillset and qualifications as it is about you as a person. Build a connection with the hiring manager, and you are more likely to come across as likable and memorable. Showing interest in the company and position by asking questions, displaying positive body language, and listening attentively are common ways to build connections. Your resume speaks of your skills; the interview should showcase your personality. 3. Rehearse with a mock interview One often-overlooked way to boost confidence for a job interview is mock interviews. Going through the motions of the mock interview can help reduce the pressure of the actual event. There are many common hiring questions and role-specific questions asked by recruiters that can be researched online. Preparing the answers to these questions and then having a friend or loved one stage an interview is an excellent to build confidence. 4. Dress for the occasion A job interview is considered a formal occasion, so a smart dress code applies. The wisdom behind the refrain, dress for success, is that power dressing allows you to demonstrate your professionalism visually. There is a reason why a smart dress code can give you leverage over informal wear – it exudes confidence. 5. Practice deep breathing exercises Anxiety, worry, and fear are most often the result of thinking about the past or future. One of the best and easiest ways to feel relaxed and confident is through deep breathing exercises. Breathing helps you stay present and not worry about past or future events. Deep breathing is effective for calming nerves. It also offers the brain more oxygen, which is beneficial for cognitive function, allowing you to think clearly during a job interview. 6. Be positive Positive self-talk can work wonders for confidence. Many mental health experts advocate the power of repeating positive words and statements, also known as affirmations about oneself, to trick the brain into believing them. These statements must be phrased in the present tense, for example, I am calm and confident, for your subconscious to accept it as fact. 7. Use visualization techniques Similar to affirmations, visualization techniques are another incredible way to boost confidence. Imagining what you are wearing, how you enter the room, greet the hiring manager, take your seat and talk confidently throughout the interview is a way of practicing how you will perform. If you can see it in your mind, you can believe it. 8. Mind your body language Positive body language is a non-verbal way of indicating to a hiring manager your confidence. Sitting up straight, arms uncrossed, smiling, and maintaining eye contact are signs of positive body language suitable during a job interview. On the other hand, running your fingers through your hair, fidgeting, shaking your legs, and tapping your fingers can portray nervousness. 9. Arrive Early There is some wisdom in arriving at least 15 minutes before the appointed time for your job interview. You will have a few minutes to compose yourself, calm your nerves with a few deep breaths, and remind yourself by repeating your affirmations as to why you are the best candidate. In Conclusion Job interviews can be nerve-wracking for the interviewee, but they don’t need to be by having enough preparation and confidence. Tapuz Staffing is here to help your resume get to the top of the list and land you your next job interview. Apply today! Congratulations—a new job is exciting! You’ve worked hard to gain the right experiences, build your resume, and wow your interviewers. And now you’re working just as hard to learn the ropes, get to know your coworkers, and develop a rapport with your boss, and you’re having fun doing it. You’re loving the company and they’re impressed by your effort and professionalism. So how can you keep up that momentum? Here are some tips to make a great job last beyond that initial honeymoon phase.
What Can I Do To Make Sure I Continue To Enjoy My Job? 1. Ask for new challenges Be a team player and volunteer for new projects and assignments. Not only will you learn more and grow faster, your employer will know that they can rely on you in a pinch. An eager, enthusiastic employee is a lot easier to work with than someone who shutters their office door when help is needed. 2. Be proactive When you have a new idea, take initiative and share it with others. If you sit around and dream about it instead of taking action, your organization will never improve and you won’t stand out as an innovator who makes valuable contributions. Companies are always looking for ways to boost productivity, efficiency, and encourage the growth of their employees. 3. Present solutions No one likes a squeaky wheel. If you run into problems and setbacks along the way, don’t simply complain to your boss about it, especially about things that are outside of anyone’s control. You can complain to your friends and family, but to your boss, present them with some solutions first. Even if your solution isn’t perfect and it’s not the one they end up choosing, you’re a lot more valuable if you can problem-solve. 4. Have professional goals Don’t wait to be promoted. Take control of your career by setting goals and creating your own path for development. Share your goals with your boss so they can see that you’re ambitious and that you’re working to support the goals of the company, but ultimately your future rests with you. 5. Keep learning Once you’ve mastered the tasks and responsibilities of this new role, start looking for more. Find a mentor in your company or industry, look for some online classes, or simply read and watch videos about everything that’s relevant to your field. The best, most intelligent employees are those who recognize that they don’t know everything but strive to fill their knowledge gaps. 6. Be adaptable Things change, problems arise, but don’t let them stop your progress. Roll with the punches, change your expectations, and adapt to the new situation. This might be something simple, like having your workstation moved, or something larger, like accepting a new assignment or working for a new manager. Either way, you’re a lot more valuable to your organization if you can be flexible and go with it. While the opportunity to earn money is an incentive to look for a summer job, there are more benefits you can benefit from working during the summer. Tapuz Staffing shares 7 reasons why a student needs a summer job.
You can gain essential, invaluable life-skills training for an inexperienced college student. Then there are the real rewards that offer life-long benefits such as building confidence. The more confident a student becomes in navigating the world of work, the better chances you have of realizing a successful future. While these are important reasons to consider seasonal employment as a student, what do the statistics say about students taking up summer jobs? According to a recent survey conducted by The Generation Lab, 69 percent of college students intend to undertake a summer job either full-time or part-time. More than half of the survey respondents cited they need the money earned from their summer jobs to pay for their education or personal expenses. The same report further showed that saving money and supporting family members financially were the other common reasons students landed summer jobs. Students’ top source to find a summer job is introductions made by friends and family. In addition to referred job boards and company career websites. 7 Reasons Why A Student Needs A Summer Job Consider the summer job as a means to gaining a competitive advantage in life; here’s how it works: 1. Relevant real-world practical experience It may not seem so at first, but student life can be considered a sheltered experience with its own unique set of challenges. The working adult world can be quite a shock unless you have experienced it before. By providing relevant real-world experience, summer jobs can prepare students for their future in the work world. In addition, employers will always rate the hands on practical experience as an advantage for job-seekers. It is proof the candidate is familiar with the workplace and how to fit into it. 2. Opportunity to establish a professional network The great value of a professional network is meeting people who can influence your career path. Research carried out by HubSpot has shown that 85 percent of jobs are secured through networking. So, while you may not remain in your summer job for the rest of your career, you can establish professional contacts with those who can introduce you to other professionals offering more desirable job prospects once you have completed your studies. 3. Gain good references Today, reference letters are an essential part of the pre-employment screening process. HR managers look at reference letters from previous employers for evidence that you are reliable, thorough, easy to work with, and trustworthy. Unfortunately, without previous work experience, there is no way to provide past work references. 4. Develop soft skills Almost every job description includes soft skills in the prospective job candidate. Soft skills relate to those highly desirable employability skills – essential skills that support success in the workplace: good time management, organization, interpersonal communication skills, multi-tasking, and leadership. The summer job is the perfect environment to develop soft skills future employers demand. 5. Gain an insider’s look into careers Some students have a clear idea of what career path they want to take, but without experience, they may not know whether that career is the right fit. The temporary nature of the summer job is great for giving students an insider’s look into a career to decide whether or not it is a job they want to pursue. For example, a student may never discover their natural talents in sales until they try it or see that they are more suited to customer service than administrative work. 6. Learn responsible money management skills There is no better teacher than real-life experience, which could not be more true than when it comes to money. The most valuable money-handling lessons occur when you begin to earn your own money through your work efforts. Hence, the consequences of not budgeting, paying bills on time, and saving for a rainy day. 7. Learn more about yourself Many people can go their entire lives without knowing who they are or what they are capable of. Summer jobs can help you identify your strengths and weaknesses and uncover desires such as the love of travel that may initiate a career in the travel industry or the love of cooking or baking to start a catering business. Final thoughts The summer job may be a temporary stop on your way up the career ladder, but this does not take away its importance. It’s more than just a job, it’s investing in your future. Apply online today! Unlock Your Productivity: 5 Dynamic Strategies for Staying Motivated Everywhere, from Home to work2/21/2024
In today’s competitive, social media-driven environment, it’s easy to get frustrated or complacent. But if you stay focused on your purpose for living and working, you’ll stay motivated to be busy and active at home and successful at work. To be self-motivated, stay positive and remember why you’re working. How does each task you complete relate to your own life and to others? How are you making a difference and contributing to something important? If you want to accomplish more, you need to think of the big picture.
Use these tips Tip #1: Stay positive When you’re positive and confident, you will make constructive, beneficial decisions that start to progress you to your goals. You can control how you think and feel and act with self-affirming statements. Choose to be successful and visualize yourself succeeding! A mental picture of yourself completing a job or trying something new can be very inspiring and make all the hard work seem worth it. Tip #2: Create new challenges If you’re bored with your existing tasks, ask your boss for some new responsibilities. Try to make it fun for yourself. Approach old tasks in a new way. This little change might give you a new perspective and new energy. At home, try cooking a new dish. Or a new workout class! Something new that fits into the bigger picture of your life goals can trigger your inspiration and streamline your focus. Tip #3: Set attainable goals Break large projects into smaller chunks or single tasks, so you recognize when you’re making progress. Make a to-do list of manageable jobs and feel successful each time you cross an item off your list. Set mini-deadlines for yourself. For example, in the next half hour, I want to finish this chore! Or compose and send these emails! Tip #4: Find a social support network Find mentors, colleagues, and supportive friends who will listen and share ideas. You want people who will help you develop new skills, give you guidance, and encourage you to try new activities or challenges. Meet or touch base with these people frequently, especially when you feel you need a boost of energy! Tip #5: Acknowledge your accomplishments When you complete an assignment, meet one of your mini-deadlines, or accomplish a personal goal, celebrate! Reward yourself with a break or a walk, grab a snack or another cup of coffee—you earned it. Treating yourself and keeping life fun will help you stay motivated! Are you looking for a new job? Stop Searching, Start Shining: 4 Traits of Dream Job Landers (and How You Can Have Them Too!)2/21/2024
Your resume shows off your skills, qualifications, experience, education and probably a few dozen other heroic highlights. But it will only get you so far. At some point, your intangible qualities will take over and can make you shine brighter than someone with a similar resume. Here are four characteristics you can develop to help you find your dream job.
What Makes You A Great Hire? #1: Have a positive attitude Strive to be the person who wears a smile every day, someone that other people are attracted to and want to be around. Your energy is always contagious, so employers would much rather hire someone who’s pleasant and enthusiastic than someone who complains or is grumpy. Those chipper moods spill over into your work habits and how you treat those around you. So, practice being grateful, focusing on the positive, and rewarding yourself with small treats that will put you in a cheery mood. #2: Be confident Confidence can go a long way, in both your personal and professional lives. It’s not the same thing as being arrogant. Confidence is carrying yourself proudly and believing that you’re capable of completing a challenging task. If you don’t believe in yourself, then others will have trouble believing in you, too. But if you convey a spirit of determination and tenacity, then you’ll earn admiration from co-workers and supervisors, setting yourself up for promotion. Practice accepting challenging tasks, always believing that you can accomplish them, and don’t ever hesitate to ask for help when you need it. #3: Be communicative Communication skills are necessary in every job in every field. Whether you’re running a meeting, asking for a raise, offering and receiving feedback, or selling a product, you need to speak clearly, write clearly, or both. And speaking and writing skills are always apparent during the hiring process—either in an interview, or your cover letter, or in a report from your references. If your conversation skills are lacking, practice. Try engaging friends or strangers in small talk, even when it’s uncomfortable. The more you practice, the better you’ll get and the more confident you’ll become. If you struggle with writing, start a journal or compose emails to friends and family members so that you’re writing every day. Make sure your grammar and spelling are accurate and your syntax is clear. #4: Be hardworking Last but not least, you need to be a hard worker, no matter what you do. Show up on time, meet deadlines, and even stay a little late. Make sure you’re completing every task and assignment so that it’s your absolute best work. Show that you’re passionate and enthusiastic about your job and your industry. Ask your boss for more responsibility and think of innovative ways to show that you’re going above and beyond. Are you looking for a new job? Are you looking for your dream job? We’d love to connect you with a great company near you who is hiring. Apply online today! Most people shy away from networking. It can be intimidating, awkward, draining, and time-consuming. When so many of us are already pressed for time, the last thing we want to do at the end of a long day is attend a “networking event.” We’d much rather meet up with friends, check in with our families, or just sit in front of the TV for a few hours. But networking can be extremely valuable, for finding a new job and advancing your career. Here are three reasons why networking can lead to a better job.
Why Should I Network More Often? 1. Pay It Forward Networking isn’t a one-stop shop—a good network is just a really good circle of friends. It’s people who will help you and to whom you can return the favor. Everyone likes people who are helpful, so good things will happen to those people. If you can do a favor for someone else, they’re more likely to make a referral for you or hook you up with someone who can. And the right employee referral can increase your chances of landing the job by a lot. If you can grow your network into more than just a list of contacts, but a series of meaningful relationships, then when the time comes for you to change jobs, you can tap into those valuable connections for referrals, insights, and other key information. 2. Explore New Options Let’s say you’re thinking of a career change into a different industry. Before you take a massive leap into something brand new, ask people you know what they think. Ask for advice and insights from industry insiders. Ask for tips from people who’ve made a similar leap. And ask someone if you can shadow with their company for a few days. This way, you’re not leaping industries blindly and stupidly—you’re instead gathering as much information as possible so you can make an educated choice about one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make. 3. Make a personal connection Networking is the leading way to get a new job. It’s estimated that 60-80% of jobs are found through networking, meaning it’s much more effective than filling out an online application. You should be establishing and nurturing long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with the people you meet. Look for opportunities everywhere—the guy who parks your car, someone at the place you volunteer, someone you bump into at an industry, or even just your neighbor. You never know who will be able to help your job search. So put yourself out there, give it a try, and don’t forget to follow up with people Looking for the next step in your career? “In New York, the opportunities for learning, and acquiring a culture that shall not come out of the ruins, but belongs to life, are probably greater than anywhere else in the world.” – Thomas Wolfe New York is the place to be – there's no denying this. The hustle and bustle of Times Square, opportunities on every corner of the city, and a culture that invites you irrespective of your past. But the vibrancy that this city has to offer is far more picturesque than one can imagine. The vibrancy of this city and its diversified culture create the perfect backdrop for organizing eco-friendly and memorable gatherings. For those unaware of this growing trend, New York City has become home to a new scale of environmental consciousness. In today's discussion, we will explore how you can plan sustainable events in the Big Apple, highlighting the importance of local engagement, eco-friendly practices, and the overall enjoyment of attendees. Eco-Friendly Venues Sustainable events tend to be difficult to organize, especially when most event planners are willing to sell carbon emissions on a profit basis. However, you can take a giant leap forward with eco-friendly event venues. In New York City, you can find venues like LEED-certified buildings, rooftop gardens, and other venues designed with eco-friendly features. There are benefits to using these places. For instance, LEED-certified buildings consume 11% less water than conventional buildings. Further, Green roofs can reduce stormwater runoff by up to 75% compared to traditional roofs. Here is a list of eco-friendly venues that you can reach out to for your sustainable event. Waste Reduction Strategies and Recycling Efforts Over the years, we haven't emphasized reducing waste and expanding recycling efforts. However, through these sustainable events, the Big Apple has opened up several avenues previously unheard of to reduce overall wastage. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), an average American generates around 4.5 pounds of waste daily. So, it’s essential that we need some high-end waste reduction strategies, and there’s no better place to start than in New York City. Through these waste reduction strategies, such as composting and recycling, events can contribute significantly to reducing overall waste. A report states that recycling one ton of paper can save approximately 17 trees and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20%. Incorporating recycling stations, providing clear signage, and using eco-friendly materials can encourage attendees to participate actively in waste reduction efforts. Here are a few options to help strategize waste reduction efforts before you plan your event.
Controlling the Transportation and Carbon Emissions Another environmental struggle the world continues to face is the insane rise in carbon emissions. Transportation continues to contribute to these emissions, especially in a bigger metropolis like New York City. A New York City Community Air Survey reported that transportation accounts for more than 47 percent of New York state’s CO2 emissions. By encouraging sustainable transportation, we can reduce the carbon footprints of events. For instance, we can offer public transportation and bike racks by organizing events in accessible venues. So, these events can contribute to a greener cityscape. Sustainable Food Choices and Local Agriculture Food choices are crucial in sustainable events, especially in New York City. United Nations report that the global food system is significantly responsible for greenhouse gas emissions. By incorporating sustainable food practices, such as seasonal and local ingredients, these events can reduce the use of long-distance food transportation. After all, New York City is home to over 36,000 farms that produce a diversified range of crops and livestock. So, instead of ordering food supplies from other cities, we can use local produce in these events to ensure success. Choosing local and organic food and beverage options for your event supports local farmers and reduces the carbon footprint associated with long-distance food transportation. Let us elaborate on how these options can be beneficial for you.
Economic and Environmental Benefits of Supporting Local Businesses The most important feature of hosting sustainable events in New York City is the promotion and support of local businesses. In today's turbulent economic times, these small-scale business owners need all the support they can get. We elaborated on local agriculture in the previous section, but reaching out to these local businesses can also improve the local economy. By partnering with local businesses for event services and sourcing locally produced goods, you can reduce transportation-related emissions and support the city's sustainable growth. Engaging Attendees and Inspiring Behavioral Change The most underrated benefit of sustainable events is their ability to educate and inspire attendees to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. According to the Journal of Sustainable Tourism, attending sustainability-focused events can increase participants' pro-environmental behaviors. By organizing interactive sustainability initiatives, such as workshops on recycling and upcycling, or hosting panel discussions with environmental experts, events can create a lasting impact by empowering attendees to make sustainable choices beyond the event itself. Attendee Satisfaction Sustainable initiatives can enhance the overall event experience and elevate attendee satisfaction. It can either be in the form of eco-friendly event décor or designs or by organizing interactive and innovative sustainability activities. The result will be in the form of attendees making memories emphatically and uniquely. For instance, you can create opportunities for active participation, such as tree planting or volunteering for environmental projects, which can create a sense of purpose and fulfillment among attendees. Long-Term Cost Savings Implementing sustainable practices can lead to long-term cost savings for event organizers. For example, energy-efficient lighting systems, water conservation measures, and waste reduction strategies can significantly reduce utility and operational costs. Further, reusable or compostable event materials, such as signage and promotional materials, can lower the expenses of single-use items while reducing waste. Positive Public Image and Reputation In today's world of social media and online reputation, hosting sustainable events can be a good PR tactic. It's a common notion among most people that these events showcase the organizer's commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement. This can enhance your organization's reputation and attract eco-conscious attendees and partners. Positive word-of-mouth and media coverage about sustainable initiatives can further boost your public image, increasing brand loyalty and recognition. Final Thoughts New York City has always been a go-to place for those individuals who seek greatness. This is one of the reasons why the city is always open to the idea of showcasing greatness. These sustainable events in New York City provide attendees with enjoyable and memorable experiences and significant economic and environmental benefits. Embracing sustainability in events enhances the overall experience and inspires attendees to become ambassadors for positive change in their communities. Cuomo announced that assuming New York State's COVID-19 infection rate stays on its current trajectory, indoor dining in New York City can reopen at 25 percent capacity on Valentine's Day. The reopening will be subject to strict state guidance, which can be found here. The Governor also announced that marriage receptions will be able to resume in accordance with state guidance on March 15. Events must be approved by the local health department. There will be a 50 percent capacity limit and no more than 150 people can attend the event. All patrons must be tested prior to the event. With this in mind, we are ecstatic at the notion of events and more dining on the horizon! And with the warm weather just around the corner, venues and locales with outdoor spaces are the perfect option. And when hospitality staff is needed, our servers / waitstaff, bartenders, porters / cleaners, greeters, directional staff, catering captains, venue managers, cooks / culinary staff - and more - are ready for action!
