Do not fear - TIPS on how to survive a rainy NYC commute  are here!

8/7/2017

Preserving a polished and professional appearance is always important when putting our best foot forward - whether you are on your way to a client meeting, prepping to produce an event, en route to work a bartending shift, or whatever your destination - maintaining your look is essential. So - when it rains -- in New York City -- on a Monday -- during the morning rush hour -- our check list of what to do before we leave our abodes may change a little. Here are a few tips to help ensure that you arrive at your point B still feeling and looking your best:

1) Wear dark colors
Just in case a city bus passes by and splashes a huge puddle onto the sidewalk - we'll want to save the lighter colors for safer conditions.

2) Keep an umbrella with you - even when there are no clouds in the sky
So, yes, bringing an umbrella is obvious, but we may be so focused on getting ready to head out for the day that this one really may slip our minds. So having one in your bag at all times may be the best bet.

3) Have a change of shoes
An umbrella usually does a pretty good job of protecting attire, but what about footwear? Especially if we want to keep them in pristine condition. Having a travel-specific pair of shoes or rain boots really can save your look for the rest of the day. Plus you will feel much much better slipping into a dry pair of shoes after the probably-eventful rainy commute.

4) Wear a coat with good coverage
Whether it's a summer shower or a fall rain, you will want to have a coat on the longer side, to protect most of your attire, especially if that pesky side rain comes along! Either a lightweight rain slicker or a heavier water resistant winter coat, depending on temperatures, will do the trick.

5) To prepare for next time...
So, it's raining now - and we may not have time for this one this at the moment - but we can use it to prepare for the next rainy commute: waxing clothes! It's a great way to waterproof a variety of clothing like jackets, hats, and bags.
